For the first 3 months, wear your retainers full-time — day and night. Only take them out to eat, brush, or clean them. Don’t wear them when eating.
Starting in month 4, you’ll switch to nighttime-only wear — but don’t take that lightly!
Nighttime wear is for life, not just for a few months. Skipping nights can cause your teeth to shift before you even realize it.
How Long Will My Retainers Last?
Most retainers last about 18 months with proper care. But here’s the catch — more than 85% of people grind or clench their teeth without knowing it, which wears out retainers faster.
Especially your first retainer: it’s doing the heavy lifting during those early months, so plan to replace it after 1 year.
